Introductory Session

An introduction to financial and legal responsibilities of trustees – particularly useful for newly appointed trustees or those seeking a refresher session. This session will cover the legal aspects of different charitable legal structures, an explanation of terminology and a practical overview of the legal duties and responsibilities of trustees, including the specific standards against which they are measured.

Key areas in terms of financial responsibilities cover the content of the trustees’ report, understanding the different types of funds a charity can hold, an overview of the key aspects of financial management including reserves policies, the use of trading subsidiaries and trustees’ responsibilities for serious incident reporting to the Charity Commission

This interactive session will look at Community Asset Transfer and community asset ownership generally.  It will explore the benefits of community asset ownership and look in depth at what is needed to develop a successful community asset project.  The session will draw on examples of community asset transfer from across the country as well as the stories of successful applicants to the Community Ownership Fund.

SMA - Charity Trustee Training

The advanced session takes a more in-depth look at charity governance including the principles of good decision-making, collective responsibility and duties of confidentiality. It will also cover financial issues, including a brief reminder of some of the introductory principals, financial procedures and controls, a more in depth look at reserves policies, the need to carry reserves and managing your charity through challenging times.

This includes the things you need to think about as many organisations look to diversify and do things differently, including the risk of operating outside your charitable objects and tax considerations.

Finding you’re not getting past the application process?
 
Then this 3 hour workshop is for you – filled with tips and help based on years of experience in fundraising and communicating with funders.
 
Led by LARCH partner HartlePower and delivered by VCSE lead Juli Simmons.
 
The session is aimed at people who are new to applying for funds and are involved in social enterprise or charitable organisations and covers:
• The stages leading up to looking for funding
• Where to look
• Tips for writing clearly
• Essential components for a good application

Come and see us with HartlePower and find out what it means to be a social enterprise. Hear first-hand from a social enterprise founder on her experiences of setting up a social enterprise and commercial businesses.
 
This session will also include a presentation from a regional funder connected to the formation of a social enterprise.

This is a workshop for LARCH clients with our supplier Catherine Rustromji, partner and Head of Charities at Shakespeare Martineau Legal. She’ll be delivering a workshop on company structures for charities with trading subsidiaries, and social enterprises.  Julie Todd of Tremaine Accountants will be providing financial expertise. 

This will also be of value to those considering social enterprise/trading structures and provide a space to ask for professional advice and make good connections.

LARCH Live - Help us grow a thriving Social Economy in Redcar & Cleveland and Hartlepool

‘LARCH Live’ is about getting involved and having the chance to support and influence how LARCH develops in your area.

There are opportunities for individuals, and organisations from the public, private and VCSE sectors to get involved in the development and delivery of the LARCH programme.

Our aim is to help create a thriving social economy and networks of social enterprises and enterprising VCS organisations in Redcar & Cleveland and Hartlepool, through peer groups, social enterprise forums, enterprise development activities, training and events.

LARCH Events

LARCH is organising and promoting events and activities to raise awareness and understanding about the value and relevance of social enterprise, enterprising income streams and repayable social investment as part of our ambition to shift the culture and build a strong social economy. These include resources, workshops and presentations, events and competitions, blogs etc.
